What is Adventure Green Alaska?

Adventure Green Alaska is a voluntary certification program for tourism businesses operating in Alaska that meet standards of economic, environmental and social sustainability. It has also been the only sustainable certification program in Alaska since 2009. Adventure Green Alaska has grown to over 100 certified member businesses and is a member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council.

Adventure Green Alaska certified businesses are evaluated on their sustainable initiatives in four categories: management, local communities and economies, the environment, and Alaska history and culture. Certified businesses set goals that are evaluated every two years to encourage continual innovation in their business practices.

Certified businesses have the right to use the Adventure Green Alaska label, logo, and to participate in AGA promotional opportunities.

Our Mission

The Adventure Green Alaska program is dedicated to fostering a commitment to sustainability among tourism businesses in Alaska. The mission of the AGA program is to support sustainable tourism in Alaska through four pillars: management, local communities and economies, the environment, and Alaska history and culture. Through the embodiment of these guiding principles, businesses are encouraged to adopt practices that not only prioritize environmental stewardship but also provide visitors with meaningful educational experiences about Alaska’s culture, history, and natural surroundings. AGA certified businesses positively impact local communities, improve economic opportunities, and generate sustainable jobs for Alaskans. AGA certified businesses act as models of sustainability, enriching the visitor experience while supporting the long-term health and vitality of the state’s ecosystems and communities.
